Rospatent, the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property, has announced the registration of four new regional food brands: Gorokhovets gingerbread, Leningrad doughnuts, Zaraysk honey cake, and Kholmovka strawberry. These brands not only help develop the economic potential of regions but also increase their tourist attractiveness.
Gorokhovets gingerbread from Vladimir Oblast has been a hallmark of the city of Gorokhovets since the Soviet era. Each product is imprinted with a seal depicting Tsar Gorokh or a pattern resembling fine embroidery, using a specially carved linden wood block. These blocks are also produced in the Gorokhovets district. In addition to printed gingerbread, painted gingerbread called "Kozuly" is also made here. Gorokhovets gingerbread is made using only natural ingredients and has a distinct honey-creamy-spicy taste and aroma.
Leningrad doughnuts have been produced in a cafe on Bolshaya Konyushennaya Street in Saint Petersburg since 1958. The convenient location in the city center has attracted many visitors and made these doughnuts very popular. The assortment and recipe of the doughnuts have remained unchanged for over 60 years. The spirit and traditions of Soviet public catering have also been preserved in the establishment. Many tourists visiting Saint Petersburg try to visit the doughnut shop on Bolshaya Konyushennaya Street and are even willing to stand in long lines for the doughnuts.
Honey cake appeared in Zaraysk, a city in the Moscow region, in the 18th-19th centuries. However, its mass production began only in the 1930s. In 1992, the recipe for the honey cake was lost and was only recreated in 2018. Now, Zaraysk honey cake is a traditional gastronomic souvenir and a hallmark of the city. Since 2021, the first honey cake shop in Russia has been operating here, where you can not only try the sweet treat but also participate in a master class on baking it and even come up with your own recipe.
The fourth gastronomic brand is Kholmovka strawberry. It originates from Crimea. The village of Kholmovka is located in a valley surrounded by mountains and has its own microclimate, which differs from the climate of the foothills. Thanks to this, it is possible to grow berries with a unique taste and high sugar content, rich in glucose, vitamins C and P. The berries have a pleasant aroma, and their flesh is red and juicy.
