The first festival of folk dances and singing took place in Albanian Dropull. The Dropull municipality is home to a compact Greek community, which is associated with the region's original cultural traditions that were showcased at the first folklore festival in the city center.
Bright folk costumes, lively Greek dances, and multi-voiced singing captivated festival guests, including members of the Albanian government.
The Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation, Blendi Gonxha, was so inspired by the first Dropull festival that he announced the decision to make it an annual event. "Original traditions in costumes, dances, and rituals are treasures that must be protected and passed on to future generations," Gonxha stated.
This idea was supported by Mirela Kumbaro, the Minister of Culture and Environment of Albania. "There can be no more beautiful place to celebrate Greek culture, wonderfully represented by the Greek minority," she commented on Blendi Gonxha's words.
Kumbaro promised support for the organization of folk celebrations in Dropull that promote the preservation and popularization of original Greco-Albanian culture. The ministers also agreed that authentic festivals can attract additional streams of tourists to the region.
