Following the order of the Governor of the Primorsky Territory Oleg Kozhemyako approving changes to the Forest Plan of the region around the National Park "Land of the Leopard" the felling of Mongolian oak will be prohibited, as reported by the press service of the RF Ministry of Natural Resources.

The so-called "dormant zone" will become an additional booster to protect the habitats of the Far Eastern leopard and the Amur tiger.

The total area of the exclusion zone will be more than 250 thousand hectares.

The harvesting of this species ioutside the «dormant zones» is now regulated by the minimum throughput diameter of the trunks - a parameter that will keep young trees from felling.

Forestry regulations are aimed at restoring rare species of animals in the south-west of Primorsky Krai. In particular, the text of the order emphasizes that by 2024 it is necessary to increase the leopard population by at least 10 individuals. Despite the fact that currently there are already about 100 leopards, there should be at least 150 of them for complete safety of the population.
