Europe's total revenues from tourism amounted to 519 billion euros

Total revenues from tourism in Europe in 2018 amounted to 519 billion euros or about 40% of the global results (1539.76 billion euros). At the same time, the daily expenses of tourists reached 4.53 billion euros.  

Such data are obtained from the national associations of hotel, restaurant and trade business of the member states of the European Union. 

Since 2009, Europe retains the status of the most popular tourist destination in the world. The tourism industry of the old continent today employs 12 million people. Tourists are served by 2 million companies, 90% of which are small and medium-sized enterprises. 

According to the World Tourism Organization, which unites 158 member countries, Europe in 2018 received the largest number of tourists -713 million (an increase of 6%). This is followed by Asia-Pacific region – 313 million (+6%), North and South Americas – 217 million (+3%), Africa – 67 million (+7%) and the Middle East – 64 million (+10%).
