Egypt has recorded a gradual improvement in the number of foreign tourists visiting the North African country since the beginning of the year, according to the tourism minister Khaled Al-Anani.
Arab News quoted the minister as saying that this improvement in tourists’ arrival confirms confidence in Egypt as a safe and distinguished tourist destination.
He told a Tourism Recovery Summit hosted in Riyadh that South Sinai and the Red Sea had fewer cases of COVID-19.
Al-Anani said Egypt’s tourism was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and Cairo had to take measures to confront the crisis such as health safety controls as well as an inoculation against the virus.
He said they were currently vaccinating tourism workers in South Sinai and the Red Sea.
About 65% of tourists in Egypt visit the two coastal destinations.
Once done with the two Egypt will also vaccinate tourism sector workers in Cairo, Giza, Luxor and Aswan.
Egypt has already administered one million doses against a population of 100 million.
The North African country received 500,000 tourists in April compared to 200,000 tourists a month in the second half of last year.
Egypt reopened to foreign tourists in July last year after having closed its borders in March.
