Egypt has begun to introduce the United Nations (UN) standards aimed at protecting the environment. In the resorts of Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Dahab, it is now prohibited to use plastic bags and disposable houseware.

In addition, a ban has been introduced on the feeding of fish with bread and other food from restaurants and hotels, as this causes serious damage to marine life.

Egypt participates in the implementation of the UN Green Fins program aimed at protecting the underwater world from the negative effects of diving and snorkelling.

In 2018, at least 11.3 million tourists visited Egypt and 3 million of them went on underwater excursions in the Red Sea.

Through its accession to the UN project, the Egyptian diving centers and underwater guides are required to be properly prepared and certified.
