A council established under the chair of the Federation Council, whose first meeting was held by the head of the upper house of parliament, Valentina Matvienko, should become, according to her, a "think tank" for the further development of Siberia. Projects in the field of public-private partnership play a significant role in this process.
Among the most important projects in which senators are already participating, Valentina Matvienko named the resettlement of people from dilapidated housing in the Baikal-Amur Mainline area, the elimination of accumulated harm in Usolye-Sibirskoye, and the revival of the city of Norilsk.
The social projects of "Norilsk Nickel" are inspiring optimism. The company also has good prospects in terms of developing processing industries. This was stated by the chairman of the Council for the Development of Siberia, Alexander Uss.
Speaking at the council meeting, the first vice president of MMC Norilsk Nickel, Nikolay Utkin, noted that the total cost of the measures implemented by the company jointly with the city administration, regional and federal authorities within the framework of the comprehensive plan for the socio-economic development of Norilsk is 120 billion rubles, of which 81.3 billion rubles are financial investments of the company.
"Over 2.5 years, at the expense of Norilsk Nickel, as part of the Comprehensive Plan, a fire and rescue service was built in Norilsk, major repairs of houses and social institutions were carried out, and the first new houses were commissioned. This year, the construction of four more houses is being completed. We continue to repair collectors," said Nikolay Utkin.
According to him, the company is also building additional facilities, some of which were commissioned last year - the Iceberg Ice Arena in Talnakh and a 90-apartment house for young specialists.
Nikolay Utkin recalled that Norilsk Nickel is the first-degree laureate of the first national prize of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs "Leaders of Responsible Business." "We have fulfilled and will continue to fulfill everything we promised," he assured.
The top manager of Norilsk Nickel also focused on the company's flagship environmental project, which involves investments of about 200 billion rubles. "Literally in the middle of October, we launched the second line of the "Sulfur Program" at the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant - a key event of the national project "Clean Air," he said. The volume of carbon dioxide utilization by the end of 2024 will amount to 377 thousand tons, and in 2025 - over 800 thousand tons. Thus, already this year, this will allow the company to achieve the goal of the national project "Ecology" - to reduce emissions by 20% from the 2017 level. "Next year, this figure will exceed 45%," said the representative of MMC.
"Safety, ecology, social development, support for federal and regional initiatives where enterprises operate are a mandatory attribute of modern business and our strategy. We are increasing our ambition both in strategic areas and within the framework of our social initiatives," said Nikolay Utkin.
