The Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) has urged its government to consider a visa waiver for Chinese tourists.
The council’s chief executive Tshifhiwa Tshivhengwa was quoted by Xinhua news agency as saying that the move will improve the local tourism sector.
"We need to be bold and show our intent and issue a waiver for Chinese tourists for the next three years and evaluate the impact of that," he was quoted as saying.
"We should say to China what you need is your passport for your 30 day stay in the country and see if we will reap the rewards. We have a frame work for China and we are ready."
TBCSA said 16.4 million tourists visited South Africa in 2018 and 100 000 of them were from China.
South Africa is working to bring over 21 million international visitors by 2030.
