As the coronavirus outbreak fades, Barcelona authorities reopened municipal parks and beaches to residents of this second-largest city in Spain.
Since May 8 the city's beaches have been open from 6 am to 10 am only for individual sports practice (swimming, rowing, jogging). Now they will also be open for walking from 6 to 20 hours. In parks walking and sports are allowed from 10 to 21 hours.
However, swimming, sunbathing and group sports are still prohibited in the beach areas. The full opening of beaches in Spain is expected at the last stage of the release from quarantine.
Spain is one of the countries most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which claimed the lives of almost 28,000 people in the country. It is expected that the process of phasing out quarantine measures will be completed in Spain at the end of June.
