A high-level delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), led by Stefan Liller, met with Bangladesh's Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser, Saieda Rizwana Hasan, in Dhaka.
The parties discussed a wide range of critical environmental and climate change issues facing Bangladesh. Topics included strengthening cooperation between the Government of Bangladesh and UNDP in sustainable environmental management, climate change adaptation, ecosystem-based management in ecologically critical areas, sustainable energy,low-carbon urban development, land management in the context of climate change vulnerability, and reducing hazardous chemical emissions.
Rizwana Hasan emphasized the need for ongoing partnership and innovative solutions to address Bangladesh's environmental challenges. For his part, Liller reaffirmed UNDP's commitment to supporting Bangladesh in achieving its Sustainable Development Goals, especially in combating climate change and conserving natural resources.
Earlier that day, a French delegation led by the French Ambassador to Bangladesh, Marie Masdupuis, also held talks with Rizwana Hasan. They discussed cooperation in forest protection and ecosystem conservation, air and river pollution,industrial emissions, and the importance of protecting mountain ecosystems, including the Sundarbans, Sal forests, and the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The meeting also addressed the urgent need to ban single-use plastic bags, cooperation in combating climate change,coastal afforestation, and the implementation of the National Adaptation Plan.
