Attendance at the Louvre, the largest museum in the world, fell by 72% in 2020.
Closed for six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Louvre took over last year 2,7 million visitors compared to 9,6 million in 2019.
In contrast to previous years, when foreign tourists accounted for 75% of the total number of visits to the museum, in 2020, 84% of its visitors were residents of France.
Over the past year, the Louvre's financial losses amounted to more than 90 million euros, which was partially compensated by state aid of 46 million euros.
Meanwhile, the number of subscribers of the Louvre in social networks increased to 9.3 million (+1.02 million, compared to 2019), and the museum's website was visited by 21 million people.
