Currently, Mir cards are accepted in 10 countries, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia reported, citing Maria Tochilova, director for the development of digital and technological services of the payment system.
These are Turkey, Vietnam, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, South Ossetia, Abkhazia.
Answering a question about plans to develop infrastructure for accepting Mir cards in Egypt, Tunisia, Cuba and other countries that are ready to accept Russians to their resorts, Tochilova said that the company is focused on expanding services in the markets of those states where Mir already exists.
“Technologically, we are ready to connect all countries that themselves take the initiative and want to provide a service for servicing Mir cards,” Tochilova was quoted as saying by Vestnik ATOR.
However, the association noted during what time and with which countries potential cooperation is possible, the Mir representative found it difficult to answer.
According to the association, tour operators do not expect Mir cards to become the main stimulus for the growth of tourist trips of Russians to the CIS countries in the next one to two months.
“Demand will be hampered by such factors as the high cost of air transportation, the growth in travel costs due to the weakening of the ruble and the fall in the incomes of our fellow citizens,” writes Vestnik ATOR.
