After the UK left the European Union on January 31, the rules for entry of citizens of the European Union member states to the United Kingdom will remain unchanged until December 31, 2020, according to a statement from the British tourist office Visit Britain.
From 1 February until the end of this year, there will be a transition period during which the UK will continue to apply EU rules.
The British government confirmed that for EU citizens who enter the United Kingdom for tourist purposes or for short-term stays, visa-free regime will remain until at least 2021. After the transition period, freedom of movement will be restricted.
In the meantime, European citizens can enter the UK on a national identity card and enjoy on its territory the benefits of a European health insurance card.
Similar rights will be reserved for British people entering EU countries.
