All lovers of tom yum spicy soup and other delights of Thai gastronomy this year will enjoy a cascade of events within the framework of the Thai Street Food Festival 2020, which will take place in the main tourist destinations throughout the country from the beginning of February.
The Bangkok festival held from February 1 to 2 will turn Silom Road, the local Wall Street, into a pedestrian zone. According to authorities, in just two days about 100 thousand guests will visit it. They are expected to spend at least 500 million baht (about $16.6 million) on the ready-made meals, as well as food and related products.
The second of the street food festivals will be held on February 29 and March 1 in the Ayutthaya province, the third - from April 3 to 6 in Pattaya. Then guests and residents of Thailand are expected to visit the festival on April 25-26 in Chiang Mai, from May 1 to 3 in Khon Kaen. The gastronomic program will conclude on May 30-31 in Phuket.
According to Prasan Wangratanapranee, the assistant minister at the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, “Thailand Street Food Festival 2020 is primarily designed to promote tourism and stimulate domestic spending among the Thai people and foreign visitors”.
As Thai food connoisseurs advise, in addition to the soups Tom Yam or Tom Kha one should try Khao Pad - fried rice with vegetables and eggs, chicken or pork, or Pad Thai - fried transparent noodles with the same kinds of meat. And for dessert, you should take Sticky Rice - sweet rice in coconut milk with mango.
