The pandemic of a new coronavirus infection and the UK's withdrawal from the European Union have become the main causes of the crisis situation in the British tourism industry.

According to the American TV channel CNN, compared with 40.9 million tourists in 2019, their number in the United Kingdom in 2020 decreased to 11.1 million people. This year, this figure is expected to decrease to 7.4 million.

This summer, the number of arrivals of foreign travelers to the UK amounted to only 14.3% of the seasonal figure of 2019.

Vaccination of the population also lags behind other tourist destinations. In the UK, 68.8% of the population is fully vaccinated against 73.9% in Italy, 79.2% in Spain and 86.6% in Portugal.

Due to Brexit, citizens of EU member states are now required to have a passport to enter the UK, which three quarters of Europeans do not have. For example, for the French, obtaining such a passport increases the cost of the holiday budget by 86 euros.
