Russian scientists investigated the "desert" in the Arctic

The study of the "desert" in the Arctic was conducted by scientists of the Karelian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who completed an expedition to the Tersk coast of the White Sea.

The Kuzomenskiye Sands desert is located on the northern coast of the White Sea. Sometimes the region is also called the " Sahara in the Arctic".

"This object is interesting to us from the point of view of the processes of local desertification in the Arctic territories. Our task is to establish the status of the Kuzomenskiye Sands and find out what explains this phenomenon: a combination of several natural factors or human influence. It is necessary to comprehensively analyze the structure and composition of this natural object," said Pavel Ryazantsev, senior researcher at the Department of Integrated Scientific Research of the Karelian Scientific Center.
