The head of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District DmitryArtyukhov spoke about the touristattractiveness of the Arctic regionand the creation of infrastructurethat will contribute to the development of tourism in Yamal.

First of all, it is about the implementation of a project to create a tourist cluster, includingthe Rai-Iz ski complex, the Harbey recreational complex, the Snezhinkainternational scientific station, aswell as eco-routes to unique naturalplaces in the Polar Urals: BolshoeShchuchye and Hadataeganlor lakes.

"We are the main gas producing region of the country and this will remain our basic segment of the economy. The tourism sector is newfor Yamal, but the region has all the components to become a populartourist destination: proximity to thecapitals – 2.5 hours by plane fromMoscow and St. Petersburg, the unique nature of the Arctic, the culture of the northern peoples, the climate that ensures the longest skiseason in the country," Artyukhovsaid at a meeting with managers the region.

"Now we are still at the verybeginning of the development of the sphere, but we see that thenumber of guests is growing everyyear. We are confident that with the advent of modern infrastructureand the creation of conditions for a comfortable stay of tourists, theirflow will increase significantly."
