The Russian Federation Volunteers of the Clean Arctic environmental project have completed the cleaning of Tiksi village, Russia's northernmost port located beyond the Arctic Circle, the project's press service reported. "Cleanups within the framework of the Clean Arctic project in Tiksi have been taking place since 2021. Federal volunteers are participating in them for the second time. During the week of work, the volunteers collected about 23.5 tons of scrap metal, 25 tons of solid municipal waste, and cleared an area of more than 4 hectares," the report says.
Volunteers from Moscow, the Moscow, Novgorod and Yaroslavl regions, as well as the Khabarovsk Territory participated in the work on the territory of the village and the port, which turns 90 this year.
This year, the Clean Arctic project will cover five settlements in Yakutia. Over the previous three years, volunteers have collected more than 850 tons of scrap metal in Yakutia, clearing the territory with a total area of 31 hectares.
