World Chess Cup kicks off in Sochi

Competitions will run until August 6. The winner and finalist of the men's tournament will receive tickets to the Candidates Tournament, while the three best participants will be selected for the Women's Candidates Tournament. The World Cup regulations include elimination matches. The total prize fund for the men's tournament is $ 1,892,500, the women's tournament - $ 676,250. The current prize pool is a record for the World Cups.

"More than 300 participants are expected at the World Cups. There are very few refusals to participate in the competitions, in fact, this confirms that the decision to hold the World Cups is the right one. We are preparing to ensure the safety of participants at the highest level," said the President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Arkady Dvorkovich.

During the tournaments, participants will be tested several times for the coronavirus. There is also the possibility of vaccination of participants if such needed.
