The "Season of Wild Garlic" gastronomic festival has kicked off in the restaurants of Vladivostok and will last until May 5th. This was reported by the Visit Primorye tourist portal of Primorsky Krai.
"Vladivostok is regularly called one of the most attractive destinations for gastronomic tourism in Russia - and gastronomic festivals play an important role in this. It was in the capital of Primorye that such well-known events of national scale were born, such as the "Hold the Crab!" and "On the Crest!" festivals. The newly launched "Season of Wild Garlic" Festival is the freshest (in all senses!) addition to this list," - the message says.
To participate in the festival, restaurants only need to include a special set in their menus - at least three dishes with wild garlic costing up to 500 rubles each.
As the portal says, wild garlic is a product that is both simple and rich, and many chefs especially note its ability to "play on any field", enriching the flavors of the main course, garnish or sauce.
According to the festival organizers, wild garlic has valuable medicinal properties and is a source of various vitamins. It tastes and smells like garlic due to the presence of allicin and essential oil, and it also has the tenderness and sweetness of green onions.
According to the information on the festival website, the organizers want to popularize this local product, increase the attractiveness of the Far East for tourists and "turn the wild garlic season into a popular annual event that is loved by both locals and guests of the participating cities."
