More than 70 kilometers of the Vazuza River are planned to be restored in the Smolensk Region by the end of the year.Clearing the riverbed is one of the stages of the "road map" for the creation of the "Zagon Tract" national park within the boundaries of the regional state natural reserve "Forest massifs in the Zagon tract". This was reported by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia on its website.
"The cleared section of the river will increase the recreational attractiveness of the area and will contribute to the development of tourism in the region," the message says.
Specialists will remove 4400 cubic meters of wood waste and 670 tree trunks overhanging the water body.
At the same time, work will be carried out in the region to restore the federal cultural heritage site "High Estate" and to improve the "Sych" park in the city of Sychevka.
"For the residents of the Smolensk Region, the clearing of the Vazuza River will be a landmark event, as it will allow them to improve the ecological well-being of 21 settlements at once: these are villages, villages and towns along the riverbed. In total, more than 17,200 people will feel the positive effect," the Ministry of Natural Resources quotes the words of the Governor of the Smolensk Region, Vasily Anohin.
