The Caucasian Nature Reserve (the western slope of Mount Akhtsarkhva) will become a new home for two Persian leopards, a male Kodor and a female Laba, on August 20.
The animals were raised at the Leopard Restoration Center in the Caucasus (Sochi National Park) and are ready to live in nature, the park's press center reports.
Leopards will be released in this park, as there predators will be provided with a good food supply. Leopards of previous generations lived and successfully hunted here.
The main outcome of the program should be viable offspring of leopards in the wild.
The event is timed to coincide with the 175th anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society, which stands at the origins of the creation of nature reserves in Russia.
