The traditional musical and floristic festival "Tulip Festival" will be held on Elagin Island in St. Petersburg on the weekends of May 18-19 and 25-26. This year it is dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. This was reported by the tourist portal Visit Petersburg.
"The flower extravaganza will occupy an area of 4 thousand square meters. Park specialists on Elagin Island have planted 225 thousand tulips. Among them are representatives of the following varieties: Arc de Triumph, Happy Upstar, Strong Love, Super Parrot, Cabanna and many others," the message says.
At the opening of the festival (May 18 and 19) on the Eastern lawn of the Elagin Palace, St. Petersburg musicians will perform excerpts from the operas "Eugene Onegin", "The Queen of Spades" and romantic works that were created on Pushkin's poems.
