Kalmykia hosts the Tulip Festival, which will last until the end of April.
“The main goal of the festival is to popularize and protect the tulip. The festival is positioned primarily as an eco-ethnic celebration of wildlife and national culture. This is the main difference between the Kalmyk festival and similar holidays held in Russia,” the festival website says.
This event, according to the organizers, is not only a colorful cultural and ethnographic event that attracts tourists, but above all, it focuses people's attention on the need to preserve the unique Gesner-Schrenk tulips from the Red Book.
The program of the festival in Elista has a lot of various events and activities. This is a concert of the dombra orchestra, and national games, and horse and camel riding, and an ethno-rave show. In addition, the national puzzle championship, archery, flower and souvenir fair await the guests.
As part of the Tulip Festival, there will also be gastronomic and poetry festivals.
For visitors there is a food court of national cuisine.
