In the village of Bylym, Kabardino-Balkaria, work has been completed on the reclamation of the dry beach of the tailing dump - the "legacy" of the Tyrnyauz mining and processing plant that closed in the 2000s, the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources reported on its website.
“The tailing dump is located between two rivers on a coast about 1,200 meters high. About 25 million tons of toxic waste have accumulated on its territory. Specialists have developed a land reclamation project to prevent environmental pollution with hazardous waste,” the ministry said.
The events were held under the Clean Country federal project of the Ecology national project for two years. 56.5 million rubles were allocated from the federal budget for the restoration of 3.6 hectares of disturbed lands.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, Alexander Kozlov, reported that 47 unauthorized landfills had already been eliminated as part of the Clean Country project, and work on another 10 would be completed by the end of the year.
“In 2025, the Clean Country federal project will be continued by the General Cleaning project. Its implementation has already begun, and in the coming years a lot of work will be done to eliminate abandoned wells. Also, according to the national project "General cleaning" by 2024, more than two thousand dangerous objects will have to be inventoried," the Ministry of Natural Resources said.
