The large-scale interregional "Lotus Festival: On the Roads of Inspiration" will unite the Kalmykia, Volgograd and Astrakhan regions.
“The key themes of this unusual event in 2022 will be harmony, ways to find balance, tranquility and happiness,” the organizers report on the festival website.
Guests will see the blooming lotus fields, which are located on the coast of the Caspian Sea (in Kalmykia and the Astrakhan region) and the Volgograd region.
The festival in the Kalmykia Region will be held from July 30 to August 6 on the coast of the Caspian Sea in the Lagan region. Lotus, or the "Buddha Flower" is a sacred symbol for the republic, it is even depicted on its flag. There are extensive fields of this flower, including the rarest species of fragrant pink lotus.
Participants of the festival in Kalmykia will learn local traditions, make an ethno-tour, participate in ecological expeditions, take part in a master class on cooking Lagan fish soup, taste the famous Lagan cheesecake and dishes with lotus roots, learn how to make accessories from lotus seeds, try their hand at Kalmyk dance and game on dombra.
The program also includes open-air parties, a pigeon show, a kite festival, and an ethnic rave show. Everyone will be able to take part in Buddhist rituals, perform rituals for happiness and fulfillment of desires.
“The water extravaganza with fire and drums on the opening day of the festival and the Water Carnival on the closing day will not leave anyone indifferent,” the organizers say.
The Astrakhan region will host festival guests from July 30 to August 27. The region has the largest area of distribution of wild lotus in the world. In Astrakhan, lotuses bloom even in the city center, festival organizers say.
Guests can not only admire the flower splendor, but also visit art exhibitions, get acquainted with the multinational traditions and cuisine of the peoples of the Astrakhan region.
The lotus festival in the Volgograd region will be held from 7 to 14 August
Here, guests are invited to a lotus lake, hiking eco-tours, online quests, exhibitions, an art plein air, an exotic bird farm, open yoga training, kayaking, walking on Sapah, a tea ceremony, master classes in calligraphy and origami.
