You can see the plant in the Dendrarium Park. Due to the fact that its flowers change color during the day, hibiscus is called the lotus tree or "crazy rose".
"Only a freshly bloomed young flower is white, by noon the petals already become light pink, and when withering, the petals curled into a lump are already crimson.
With the age of the flower, the acidity of the cell sap changes, to which the plant pigments anthocyanins react," said Galina Soltani, a leading researcher at the Sochi National Park. Residents of northeastern India eat the flowers of this hibiscus, frying them in a batter made from rice flour.
And in Chinese folk medicine, the plant is used as a medicine. Hibiscus mutabilis contains anthocyanin, leucoanthocyanidin, anthocyanidin, sterol glucosides, gibberellins, flavonol, and naringenin-5,7-dimethyl-D-xylopyranosyl-l-arabinopyranoside. Thanks to this, the plant has analgesic, sedative, expectorant, and cooling properties. Its decoction is used to treat diseases of the chest and lungs, and the leaves are used for edema and skin infections.
