The rating was prepared using a grant from the President of the Russian Federation by the all-Russian public organization "Green Patrol", which is the author of numerous expert environmental opinions and proposals.
The National Ecological Rating of Russian Regions has been published since 2008 and is published four times a year. The purpose of this project is to carry out public monitoring and comparative assessment of regions in the field of environmental safety and environmental protection.
The top ten ranking also includes the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Altai Territory, Kostroma Region, Chuvash and Chechen Republics.
According to the results of the rating, Jewish Autonomous Region, Sevastopol, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Primorsky Territory, Chelyabinsk Region, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Trans-Baikal Territory, Irkutsk Region, Sverdlovsk Region and Omsk Region are in the top ten lagging regions.
