In the Chelyabinsk region, on Lake Turgoyak, a “Green Festival” was held as part of the All-Russian volunteer action to clean up the banks of the “Water of Russia”. The event became one of the thousand cleanings of the "Green Deeds Marathon". This was reported by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia on its website.
“Turgoyak is called the younger brother of Baikal. This is one of the most transparent freshwater lakes in Russia, which has been a natural monument for more than half a century. Turgoyak is located at an altitude of 320 meters above sea level, it is surrounded by picturesque mountain peaks and a dense pine forest.
Representatives of the authorities, the Water of Russia campaign ambassador, actor and TV presenter Stanislav Yarushin, volunteer organizations, media representatives and about 600 concerned citizens took part in the large-scale work to clean up the lake shore.
“From 10 kilometers of the coastline of Lake Turgoyak, the participants of the action collected 700 kilograms of waste: 51% plastic, 6% metal and 11% glass, and the remaining 32% fell on MSW,” the message says.
During a similar action to clean up the bank of Turgoyak last year, volunteers collected almost 10 tons of garbage. Since then, it has become much cleaner there, volunteers say.
After the cleaning of the shores of the lake was completed, entertainment sites and a field kitchen began to work. Volunteers took part in mother classes and eco-starts, watched eco-cartoons and gained new knowledge in the eco-laboratory.
Each volunteer who took part in the cleanup can receive a certificate of honor from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia by registering on the website of the Water of Russia campaign (beregdobrykhdel.rf) and attaching photos to the report on the past event using the “I am a volunteer” button, selecting the necessary event on the "Reports" map of the "Event Map" menu.
