This protected cluster is located in the Smidovichi district of the Jewish Autonomous Region, in the floodplain of the middle reaches of the Amur. It covers a network of lakes, rivers and channels with the richest biodiversity.
The key natural object of the cluster is Lake Zabelovskoye, the largest freshwater reservoir in the region, which is of great importance for nesting and resting of numerous migratory waterfowl, spawning and feeding of fish. This place is home to many species of plants and animals. Of particular value are the nesting sites of the Red Data Book species: osprey, swan swan, great egret, white-tailed eagle, white-tailed and black cranes, as well as the Far Eastern stork.
Approval of the boundaries of the buffer zone of the cluster should be a big step towards ensuring environmental well-being for this unique territory. Now Zabelovskoye has established a limited nature management regime, which will not only allow to control the conduct of economic activities in the adjacent territory, but is also designed to prevent a negative impact on the valuable natural complex.
The sources of the Zabelovka River also fell within the boundaries of the buffer zone, as a result of which the entire basin of this river from source to mouth will be protected. This will allow scientists to fully carry out environmental, research and environmental education activities aimed at preserving the river from depletion and pollution.
