The press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources reported that the baby was born on July 8. The mother of the kitten, Olympia, was born from leopards Zadiga and Andrea, who were transferred to the Caucasus Leopard Restoration Center from the Lisbon Zoo as part of an exchange under the European Program for the Conservation and Breeding of Rare Species.
Olympia is a special predator. As a child, due to an injury, she had to amputate her paw. Despite this, she successfully hunts and even climbs trees. Usually males do not create pairs with such females, so the appearance of offspring from Olympia and Simbad can be considered a great achievement.
"The sex of the kitten will be known in two months - it will be determined by the Center's employees before the first preventive vaccinations. While the mother and the newborn have been provided with silence, no one bothers them," the message says.
A week earlier, another leopard was born at the Leopard Recovery Center in the Caucasus, whose parents were Shiva and Philou. Parents arrived in Russia from the Swedish Zoo.
