The submission period for the media grants of the Russian Geographical Society has begun. The applications can be submitted until February 27 on the website grant.rgo.ru.

The Russian Geographical Society said that the funds will be used to support media projects in the field of geographic education and the popularization of geography. The budget for the 2020 grant campaign is 60 million rubles. The maximum size of a media grant is 1.8 million rubles.

According to the organizers, this year special attention will be paid to projects created for a youth audience.

According to the chairman of the Media Council of the Russian Geographical Society, Dmitry Peskov, social platforms today are more effective than traditional media for interacting with the young generation.

The Russian Geographical Society will also provide support to the creators of documentaries and television programs. At the same time, preference will be given to projects involving the creation of program cycles lasting no more than 26 minutes, in formats that "work" not only on television, but also on the YouTube channel and in social networks, explained in the Russian Geographical Society.

Among the priority topics to which the Company's experts will pay special attention:

Historical projects for the 175th anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society (prominent members of the Russian Geographical Society, expeditions, research, discoveries).

Geographic education and popularization of geography (cycles of lectures, educational online courses, podcasts, etc.).

Study and conservation of rare animal species.

Expeditionary and volunteering activities of the Russian Geographical Society.

Development of domestic and inbound tourism.

The Russian Geographical Society emphasized that this does not exclude the possibility of submitting an application on one’s own topic if it meets the statutory goals and objectives of the Company.

The Russian Geographical Society has been presenting media grants since 2010. During this time, 247 projects received support. The total amount of media grants issued is 536.7 million rubles.

Any person or organization is eligible to apply for a grant.
