The Vladimir Potanin Foundation, a non-profit grant-giving organization, celebrated its 25th birthday on January 10. The Foundation was established in 1999 and began work with the implementation of the "northern" scholarship program: students who graduated from schools in Norilsk and studied perfectly at public universities outside their hometown began to receive additional payments.
Over 25 years of work, more than 40 thousand people have become its beneficiaries and fellows, who have come up with and implemented hundreds of projects and socially significant initiatives. The Potanin Foundation has held more than 250 different grant competitions aimed at supporting Russian museums, civic initiatives, socially oriented NGOs, social sports, etc.
"The Potanin Foundation has changed a lot in these 25 years. In the beginning, he had only scholarship programs for students, but now, as we know, the foundation systematically supports the development of charity and the non-profit sector in our country. There are simply no equals to the Potanin Foundation in this," says Elena Topoleva—Soldunova, director of the ASI and chairman of the Commission of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Non-Profit Sector.
