This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov at a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the government.

“The population of Przhevalsky horses is being restored in the Orenburg Reserve. There were 36 animals, seven years later - already 80, and 15 foals were born this year, ”the minister was quoted as saying in a message on the website of the Russian government.

According to Kozlov, in the future it is planned to create a second center for the reintroduction of these horses on the basis of the Khakassky Reserve.

He spoke about other centers for the reintroduction of animals that have practically disappeared in the wild.

According to Kozlov, there are currently seven such centers in Russia. For example, the Central Asian Leopard Reintroduction Center releases trained animals into the wild every two years.

“Now in the mountains of the Caucasus exactly 9 leopards live. Our goal is 50 individuals. To achieve it, it is necessary to release more animals, 5-6 per year. This requires parents. They can be taken from the wild nature of Iran and Turkmenistan. But this, of course, is a high level of agreements,” Kozlov said.

He said that in 2022 the renovation of the center will begin - 8 new enclosures and a visitor center building will be built. The first stage will be ready in September, the second - by the end of the year, the third - in 2023 next year, Kozlov said.

Thanks to the efforts of the centers in the Ryazan and Moscow regions (Oksky and Priokso-Terrasny reserves), the bison population has grown from 500 to almost 2,000 individuals.

In addition, over 40 years of work, 150 chicks of the western population of the Siberian Crane have been bred and released into the wild at the Crane Center in the Oksky Reserve. This year, two centers for birds of the falcon family have been created: 20 Saker Falcons and Long-legged Buzzards live in the Dagestan Reserve, and 73 Gyrfalcons live in Kamchatka.

A Far Eastern Leopard Center is being built in the Lazovsky Reserve of Primorsky Krai, and the first importation of animals is planned for 2023.

According to the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources, by 2024 it is planned to open a Scientific Center for cats in Tatarstan on the basis of Kazan University and a Snow Leopard Center in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

Kozlov spoke about the work on the conservation of rare species of animals that live in the wild. Particular emphasis is placed on increasing the food supply, creating conditions for their life and protecting them from encounters with people.

For example, for the saigas, which live in the arid regions of Kalmykia and Astrakhan, reserve staff are clearing old artesian wells and drilling new ones, the minister said.
