Experts from the Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Regional Forecasting of the Russian Agricultural Bank analyzed data on ecovillages and villages in Russia and identified the regions that are the most promising for the development of ecological rural areas. This is stated in the message on the bank's website.
According to analysts, since 2020, a trend has been actively formed in Russia to change the way of life of people, which stimulates the outflow of the population from the city to the countryside.
“There is a trend of slow but steady deurbanization, which is manifested in the movement of people tired of the city and stress to ecological settlements,” the report says.
According to Rosselkhozbank experts, the concept of ecovillages is based on the principles of sustainable development of rural areas, ecological safety of the environment and a healthy lifestyle. In their opinion, more than 70% of such settlements in the future will prioritize the efficiency of infrastructure projects, digitalization, transport accessibility and green building standards.
According to Rosselkhozbank, over the past 30 years, ecological villages and settlements have begun to appear in all regions of Russia, mainly in the Central, Volga, Southern and Siberian federal districts.
“According to the RSHB, at the moment the number of ecological settlements is about 550 units in 68 regions of Russia (ongoing projects), and by 2030 their number may increase by 50% to 800 units, while their total population may reach 1 million people” , the bank said in a statement.
The drivers for the development of eco-villages will be suburbanization of agglomerations, the implementation of the principles of sustainable development and the circular economy, the standardization of green building and the development of the institution of "green" mortgages, as well as the attractiveness of environmentally friendly regions for both life and business, experts say.
The most promising for eco-villages and settlements are regions with a high share of the agricultural sector in the economy and favorable climatic conditions, for example, Krasnodar, Altai and Stavropol Territories, Rostov and Volgograd Regions, Bashkiria and Adygea.
Another important condition for the development of ecovillages is the location of regions close to the largest agglomerations.
According to experts of the Russian Agricultural Bank, the regulatory definition of ecovillages and ecovillages as independent administrative-territorial units could accelerate the process of their development, as well as establish requirements for the provision of services in the field of ecological agriculture, agro- and ecotourism, and provide state support.
