The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation handed over a passenger ship to the Sakhalin Region for organizing sea tours in the Kuril Islands, Interfax-Tourism reports citing Yury Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District.
According to him, this vessel was handed over for tours to a foreign company 15 years ago. “To be honest, I don’t know who did it and why, but we corrected this historical injustice,” Trutnev’s agency quotes.
According to him, the ship has already been handed over to a Russian operator for organizing tours in the Kuril Islands. Trutnev noted that by the end of this year, another ship would be built for sea communication with the Kuril Islands.
"Is this enough - no, it's not enough. We need to ensure that people can get to any island (of the Kuril ridge), not by helicopter, because a helicopter is expensive and not always possible - weather risks. We will continue to do this," the plenipotentiary said .
