Suffocation as a result of the release of natural gas is considered as the main version of the causes of the mass death of Caspian seals in Dagestan, Interfax reports with reference to the head of Rosprirodnadzor Svetlana Radionova.
“Yes, indeed, scientists express precisely this assumption, and so far this is the main version. And since we have already seen a similar phenomenon earlier, and there was also a mass death of animals precisely during the period of migration, when it is now taking place, for now we dwell on this. But how We can tell Rosprirodnadzor all our final conclusions in terms of pollution of a natural object, in terms of water pollution only by the end of the week, when we take all the samples," Radionova said on the air of the Rossiya-24 TV channel (All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company) in response to a question from the presenter, reports agency.
As the head of the department noted, so far only changes caused by oxygen starvation (hypoxia) have been found in animal tissues. The version of poisoning is not confirmed at the moment.
According to her, Rosprirodnadzor intends to work out possible measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
