Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin approved an updated procedure for a comprehensive integrated assessment of the level of anthropogenic impact on Lake Baikal and adjacent territories. This was reported in the telegram channel of the government of the Russian Federation.
The document defines the composition of monitoring participants and assigns specific tasks to them. The system for assessing the anthropogenic impact on Baikal is being introduced on a permanent basis.
“Roshydromet will be responsible for data on the radiation situation, the state of atmospheric air, soil and surface water. Rosleskhoz - for information about forest fires and fire danger. Ministry of Natural Resources - for information on the state of flora and fauna in specially protected natural areas," the message says.
The authorities of Buryatia, the Irkutsk region and the Trans-Baikal Territory will collect information on biodiversity in their regions.
The results of observations and forecasts of the development of the ecological situation will be posted on the portal "Ecological Monitoring of Lake Baikal".
“The main goal of the Baikal conservation project is to improve the ecological state of the lake by reducing the volume of untreated wastewater and cleaning up contaminated production sites. Another direction of work is the release of juvenile omul and sturgeon into the lake,” the report says.
