The largest tourism exhibition FITUR opens in Spain

Spain’s largest tourism exhibition, FITUR, opened yesterday in Madrid.

This year the event celebrates its 40th anniversary.

FITUR 2020 will be open until Saturday.

The 2020 exhibition is held at the IFEMA Shopping Center. 165 countries and regions, as well as about 11 thousand travel agencies, are represented at the show.

The Asia-Pacific region and Africa are the fastest growing regions of the world represented at the FITUR exhibition - they are ahead of Europe's tourist destinations by 21.5% and 19.5%, respectively.

According to the statement of the Secretary of State for Tourism of Spain, Isabelle Oliver, over the 40-year history of FITUR, Spain has become the second destination in the world in terms of the number of tourists, as well as tourist spendidng.

In 1981, only 38 million tourists visited the country, and in 2019 - 83 million people.

In total tourists spend 92 billion euros  in Spain annually.
