The famous island-abbey of Mont Saint-Michel on the north-west coast of France was closed to visitors for three years due to restoration works.
The buildings of the UNESCO-listed abbey will be cleaned of lichens, moss and algae and stone blocks to be replaced.
In total, 8,500 m2 of facades will be cleaned and almost 100 m3 of stone blocks will be replaced. The cost is 7 million euros.
Previous restoration work on Mont Saint-Michel was carried out in the second half of the XIX century.
