The opening of the first Yamal EcoHouse will take place on December 19 in Salekhard. The main goal of the project is environmental education of children and youth.

“YamalEcoDom is planned as an eco-culture center where useful fractions of recycled materials (PET plastic, paper and cardboard, glass and aluminum) will be received from citizens, as well as a place where excursions, eco-lessons, master classes for children and adults, creative events will take place and project sessions to draw attention to environmental problems and their solution,” according to the website of the government of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Two more EcoHouses will be opened in Novy Urengoy and Noyabrsk.

A thermopress and a bicycle shredder, on which you can grind the plastic you brought with you, will help make eco-lessons entertaining. Visitors will be offered to make a souvenir, visit the eco-library, play board games on environmental topics, communicate with eco-activists and volunteers.

EcoDom (EcoHouse) is a joint project of a single regional operator for the treatment of MSW in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District of Innovative Technologies LLC and Yamalekoservice JSC.

“We want that in the near future it will become the norm for Yamal residents to sort waste, to hand over useful fractions for processing, to be reasonable consumers. This requires some effort from a person, and for this, people must understand why they are doing it. In the EcoDome, they will have the opportunity to see the difference between the waste that ended up in a landfill and sent for processing,” said Artem Tkachenko, general director of Innovative Technologies LLC, whose words are quoted in the message.

The creators expect EcoDom to become the headquarters of local eco-activists, where they can meet and communicate with each other, work on new ideas.

“The doors of YamalEcoDom will always be open to all residents and guests of the district capital, who are not indifferent to the future of the fragile nature of our Arctic region,” Igor Onufriychuk, Executive Director of Yamalekoservice, is quoted in the message.

The presentation of the YamalEcoDom in Salekhard will be a logical conclusion to the Year of Ecology in Yamal, the government of the YNAO notes.

The EcoDom project has already been implemented in Tyumen, Khanty-Mansiysk, Nizhnevartovsk, and is planned in Surgut and several cities of the Sverdlovsk region.
