The press service of the Kronotsky Reserve reported that the first bear that left the den after a winter sleep was recorded in the South Kamchatka Federal Reserve. Traditionally, these predators wake up en masse in April.
The bear was captured on video at the moment when he was eating a fallen wild horse. The predator was eating 4-5 kilometers from the Coastal cordon on the shore of the Sea of Okhotsk. Experts lifted the quadcopter into the air to see it, but by this time the bear had already left.
The reserve noted that before the onset of the summer season, bears often feed on carrion. For example, on the coast they feed on fallen marine mammals, as well as shellfish, crustaceans and fish found after storms.
Scientists suggest that the fallen horse could have died in the fall. A small herd of wild horses lives on the territory of the South Kamchatka Nature Reserve.
