From August 18 to 27, the Rosa Khutor mountain resort will become the center of events of the Rosa Khutor Classical Art Festival. Classics". The festival is the successor of the I Sochi Classical Music Festival, which took place at various venues of Greater Sochi in August 2022 and became a landmark for the region: the opera was presented to the audience for the first time in the mountains at an altitude of 1050 m. This year the festival "Rosa Khutor. Classics" became the winner of the second grant competition and received the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
The festival will be held at several concert venues of the Rosa Khutor resort and will present a large-scale program. The world stars of opera and ballet will take part in the productions.
The festival will open with a two-day screening of a new dramatic ballet with elements of the rock show "The Master and Margarita" staged by Sergei Polunin, which premiered in March 2023 in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Residents and guests of the south of Russia will see the production for the first time on the stage of the concert and theater complex "Rosa Hall".
Chamber concerts of classical music will be held on the Rosa Square in front of the Town Hall. The audience is waiting for a virtuoso concert by Alexandra Lee (violin) and Alexandra Gracheva (piano), as well as a series of concerts dedicated to the 150th anniversary of S. V. Rachmaninov: "All-Night Vigil" performed by the consort choir "Gamajun", evenings of romances by S. V. Rachmaninov, a concert by the Sochi Symphony Orchestra conducted by the artistic director of the festival Alexey Aslanov.
In the final days of the festival, the audience will see the premiere production of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot on the open stage of Laizo Park, Rosa Khutor. Soloists of the Mariinsky Theater with world-famous names will perform leading roles. The main director of the festival and the new opera "Turandot" is Ilya Ustyantsev, choreographer, director and teacher of the Mariinsky Theater.
The famous composer and conductor from Bahrain Waheed Alkhan will perform at the closing ceremony of the festival. The presentation will take place within the framework of international cultural cooperation between Russia and the Kingdom of Bahrain with the unanimous support of Their Excellencies the Director of the Department of Culture and Antiquities and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bahrain.
Maestro Alhan will present the symphonic compositions included in the recent album "Return to life", which reflect the desire to find an intermediate language between Western academic music with its complex symphonic texture, percussion and colorful rhythmic forms characteristic of Eastern music in general, and Bahrain in particular, where the listener wanders through the expanses without borders. The audience will hear for the first time the music of the composer performed by the author, a group of Bahraini musicians and the Sochi Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alexey Aslanov.
As last year, an important part of the project will be its educational part - the All-Russian casting of young opera performers. The success stories of the winners of the previous casting will be told by the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, thanks to whose support the I Sochi Classical Music Festival took place. The foundation team will present a series of video interviews "The Art of Winning. Participants".
"The purpose of the festival is not only to surprise the audience with the skill of its participants and the spectacular performances, but also to become a platform for the development of young talents. Within the framework of the project, an All-Russian casting of young opera performers took place, an educational program will be held. The winners of the casting will take part in the premiere screenings of the opera Turandot, performing their roles on the same stage with world-class stars," comments Alexey Aslanov, artistic director of the festival.
