According to the draft report of the Ministry of Natural Resources on the state and protection of the environment in 2021, an analysis of the state of atmospheric air in Russia in 2021 showed a general trend towards a reduction in emissions of carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and other pollutants.
The press service of the ministry noted that compared to the previous year, the number of cities where the average annual concentration of any pollutant exceeded 1 MPC increased by 77.
"This is not due to the deterioration of the atmospheric air, but is due to the introduction in 2021 of SanPiN 1.2.3685-21, in which more stringent hygiene standards are established for a number of pollutants. Taking into account the previous standards, the number of such cities would decrease by five cities" , the department said.
The report notes that a decrease in emissions from stationary sources into the atmosphere was noted in a number of cities, including Norilsk - by 5.8%, Chelyabinsk - by 21.7%, Bratsk - by 11.3%, Magnitogorsk - 7 .9%, Mednogorsk - by 15.1%, Novokuznetsk - by 17.3%, Krasnoyarsk - by 7.6%, Lipetsk - 5.0%, Cherepovets - 11.0%, Omsk - 20.5%, Nizhny Tagil - 15.0% and Chita - 12.8%.
