Unique cheeses from the Hercegbosan canton of Bosnia and Herzegovina were awarded the highest gastronomic award.
Cheese from Livno, which is exported to 15 European countries and the US market, is considered the gastronomic ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The production of this product began here at the end of the 19th century on a small farm under the guidance of a French specialist.
Today, almost a million kilograms of cheese are produced annually at the Mlekara Livno enterprise alone. And after receiving the prestigious Crystal Taste Award, awarded by experts from 200 gastronomic associations in Europe, cheesemakers began to think about expanding production.
However, calculations show that there may not be enough milk for the ambitious plans of cheese makers. After all, the famous varieties "Livanya", "Trappist" and "Edamak" are prepared exclusively from local dairy products. In order to preserve the unique taste of their products, manufacturers from Livno intend to acquire their own dairy farms, as well as build a new factory. Modernization of production requires considerable funds, which the cheese makers of Bosnia and Herzegovina hope to receive from international funds.
