The building of the Cathedral of the Assumption in the Svyatogorsky Monastery, which is located in the Pushkin Mountains of the Pskov region, is planned to be restored. A positive conclusion has been issued for the work project, Glavgosexpertiza of Russia reported on its website.

"The Svyatogorsky Holy Dormition Monastery in the Pushkin Mountains is one of the most revered not only in Pskov region, but throughout Russia. It was founded in 1569. The great poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin often visited here, worked in the monastery library. The poet's grave is located near the walls of the Assumption Cathedral," the message says.

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the first stone structure of the monastery. It is built in the traditional forms of Pskov architecture – limestone slabs, three-apse, single-domed, with a span belfry over the narthex.

The monastery suffered during the Great Patriotic War - the occupiers twice tried to blow up the cathedral, mined the monastery buildings and the grave of A. S. Pushkin, the report says.

"The restoration project provides for the reconstruction of the original octagonal shape of the roof of the XVI century quadrangle. It is supposed to adjust the shape of the spire from one-stage to two-stage, in accordance with the images of the period of the XIX century. The facades of the church will also be restored. The foundations will be restored by injecting masonry. The old blind area will be removed, and the new one will be made of granite boulders," the Glavgosexpertize reported.

Architectural illumination of the monument, repair of stairs and paving around the church are planned.

In addition, the work includes the replacement of floors, window and door fillings, the installation of choirs, a new rafter system, lightning protection and drainage, strengthening of floor beams, and the supply of communications.
