Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin signed a document on renaming the Anyuisky National Park (the Khabarovsk Territory) after the outstanding traveler and explorer of the Far East Vladimir Arsenyev.

The Roszapovedtsentr of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources reported this on its website.

“In 1906–1910 V.K. Arseniev led a number of expeditions to the mountainous regions of the Ussuri Territory, which before him were "white spots" on the map of Russia. It was then that Arseniev described the magnificent nature of the Sikhote-Alin, which in 2007 became the territory of the Anyuisky National Park, the report says.

Currently, the specially protected natural area of federal significance, the Anyuisky National Park, is part of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Reserved Amur Region”.

“Arseniev visited our area many times and said that this territory should be protected. In the end, she became one. Therefore, the assignment of the Anyui National Park named after Vladimir Klavdievich is a recognition of his merits, ”said Vladimir Andronov, director of the Reserve Amur Region, quoted by the Roszapovedcenter.

The Anyui National Park occupies 429.4 thousand hectares on the western slope of the central section of the Sikhote-Alin Mountains in the basin of the Anyui River, a large right tributary of the Amur, and is the northern boundary of the Amur tiger habitat.

The National Park is one of the largest massifs of virgin cedar-broad-leaved forest in the region. According to experts, these areas are unique in their relic forest - large-sized yew trees interspersed with the rarest fern - medium coniogram.

In total, more than 300 species of vertebrate animals are found in the park, including about 60 species of mammals, 40 species of fish and more than 200 species of birds. Flora of higher vascular plants - more than 550 species.

“Anyuysky” is home to Himalayan and brown bears, wapiti, fish eagle owl, mandarin duck, Amur snake and Maaka tail-bearer (a day butterfly of the Sailfish family), as well as the Far Eastern leatherback turtle.

“Vladimir Arsenyev left to his descendants the adventure books “Across the Ussuri Region” and “Dersu Uzala,” which tell a story about his expeditions through the Far Eastern taiga together with his friend and guide Dersu Uzala. In 1975, Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa made a film of the same name based on these works, where Arsenyev was played by People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Solomin. The film won the main prize at the Moscow Film Festival and the Oscar Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences,” noted the Roszapovedtsentr.
