Thailand, the most famous and preferred tourist nations in Asia, is renowned for its pristine beaches, nightlife, and ancient temples. Besides, the country is also famous among couples planning a destination wedding.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic had a huge negative impact on the country’s revenue. Now, the beautiful nation is banking on big fat Indian weddings to increase its revenue.

Thailand now aims to get into ‘pent-up demand’ from the Indian wedding industry in order to boost its tourism sector. To make this possible, Thai officials have made a team with wedding planners in India. They have estimated a revenue boost of more than THB 600-700 billion approximately.

Now that most of the pandemic restrictions have been lifted, Thai officials are hoping for a huge jump in revenue from the Indian weddings and honeymooners.

Talking to local media, Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, the Deputy Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said, “Data from the last two years showed that many Indian couples got married, but couldn’t find honeymoon locations or held back on getting married because they wanted to have their reception overseas including in Thailand.”

All these arrangements, including decor, transfer and food, can cost up to THB 30 million. As per reports, nearly 60% of destination weddings in Thailand were those of Indian residents only. And that’s one of the prime reasons that Thai officials are partnering with wedding planners in Mumbai and New Delhi.

Thailand is doing everything possible to increase its revenue and attract travellers from across the globe. Recently, the Thai government also shared its plans to extend a few tourist visas from 15 to 30 days from October this year.
