The fourth season of the expedition of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) "Secrets of the Amber Region" invites volunteers - divers to participate in the exploration of the famous ancient citadel in the shape of a star in the city of Baltiysk.
The RGS plans to develop the expedition and tourism potential of this part of the Kaliningrad region. Thanks to the expedition, the volume of knowledge about the fortress has radically expanded, new routes and an exhibition of artifacts have appeared.
In previous seasons of the expedition, scientific groups studied the schemes of the city of Baltiysk and the plans of the fortress, cleaned its interior from rubble and debris.
The project team conducted a laser scan of the building and based on this made a 3D model of it.
Based on this, a virtual tour has been developed - now everyone can walk around the legendary citadel from anywhere in the country where there is an Internet connection.
This year, it is planned to continue the study of the fortress moat, as well as environmental cleanup of accumulated debris and silt there, the RGS reported.
