(Rough&Polished) - Today, the TASS press center hosted a press conference dedicated to the results of the Large Scientific Expedition to study biodiversity in the areas of Norilsk Nickel's production activities. Addressing the event participants with a welcoming speech, Stanislav Seleznev, Norilsk Nickel's Vice President for Industrial Safety, noted that the company operates in different regions of the Russian Federation and, having mining and processing enterprises, has a certain impact on the environment. “Therefore, it is very important for us to understand how negative this impact is,” he said.

Although various environmental studies are carried out by many companies, this seemed to Nornickel not enough, and therefore it was decided to more globally assess the impact on the territories where its enterprises are located, and, in fact, to conduct a large inventory of what is around, Seleznev noted.

To do this, Norilsk Nickel invited the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), with which an agreement was concluded, within the framework of which large-scale research was carried out during the year. "It was important for us that these studies be carried out, firstly, in a comprehensive manner, that is, for all types of flora, fauna, and, most importantly, that they be carried out by the same people with the same methods, with the same approaches so that we can really get a complete unified picture of the regions where we are present," Norilsk Nickel's vice president emphasized.

At the same time, he noted that, according to the company, a year of such studies is not enough, and for more complete studies, long-term studies are needed, so they will, of course, be continued next year and in subsequent years. “Of course, the results are important to us. Therefore, the recommendations that we will receive from the Russian Academy of Sciences will all be embodied in measures and will be implemented by our company,” Seleznev said in conclusion.
